About the Author
Tanya Cook is a storyteller, and advocate for children and families. She wrote What is a Cottonfield, Mama? to help parents and young readers have honest, loving conversations about history, identity, and hope.

Tanya’s passion for storytelling is rooted in her own family history. Her grandparents were once sharecroppers who, through resilience and determination, purchased land and created a legacy of strength for future generations. Their story continues to inspire her writing and her commitment to lifting up voices and stories that matter.
